Pastor Rodney preached on Mark 1:21-28 this week, titling his sermon “Teaching out the Evil”.
How teachable are you? For most of us, being teachable requires a great deal of trust in the one who we call “teacher”. After all, we’re adults….we know stuff, right? At least, we’re supposed to look like we do…..
But there’s always room to learn, isn’t there?
Take a look at what John C Maxwell wrote in his blog last week:
“How do I maintain a teachable attitude?”
This passage in Mark also shows Jesus as all-powerful as he cast out demons. In Sunday School this week, as an introduction to the passage of scripture Pastor Rodney preached on, children discussed who their favorite superhero was and what their favorite super power was. They then went on to follow up with how Jesus’ power is different than that of action heroes in the movies.
Do you fully trust Jesus? More than just as a superhero who you can call on in crisis? Enough to let Him into your everyday? Enough to let Him teach you something new today?
Becoming Teachable:
© Where could you really use God’s power in your life right now?Commit to spending time with God in prayer about this.Read Romans 8:38-39 and reflect on what God might be trying to teach you through His Word.
© Talk with someone who is more mature in their faith about how they have seen God’s power work in their lives.
Become a Teachable Family:
© Lots of things in our world promise us the power than only Jesus has and can give.Spend time as a family making a list of commercial phrases and TV characters and the promises they make.Post the list on your refrigerator. At the end of the week, ask yourselves, “Which of these empty promises have we looked to for power?”Then make a pledge together to trust only the power Jesus gives us in our lives.
